Orthopedic Program

The Orthopedics program benefits people with musculoskeletal problems caused by disease or injury—patients with amputations, arthritis, joint replacements and fractures. The program also addresses the needs of patients who have sustained major multiple trauma and may require rehabilitation across disciplines.

A skilled interdisciplinary team of specialists meets with a patient following inpatient admission to develop a clinically appropriate treatment program. When necessary, medication may be prescribed to stabilize a patient's condition.

Group and individual therapies are the framework around which recovery is built. Aquatic therapy in Gaylord's therapeutic pool helps the patient increase range of motion, relieves pain and muscle spasms, and improves functional ability.

For people who require prosthetic or orthotic devices, Gaylord evaluates and recommends devices and therapy to maximize mobility, provide stability and prevent deformity.

Gaylord's hand therapy program is renowned for the treatment of hand dysfunction caused by injury or disease. Occupational therapists have advanced training to provide patients with specialized services, including customized splints, adaptive equipment and work hardening.

Special services include:

  • Aquatic Therapy in Gaylord's therapeutic pool to help increase joint range of motion, relieve pain and muscle spasms, improve functional ability and build self-confidence.
