What kind of hospital is Gaylord Hospital?

Gaylord Hospital is a long-term acute care (LTAC) hospital that specializes in rehabilitation and the treatment of medically complex patients. As an LTAC, Gaylord provides specialized extended acute care for medically complex and chronically ill patients. Gaylord offers a full continuum of care from inpatient through outpatient services.

Should someone come to the hospital with me on admission day?

It is important to have a family member with you. Your family will be highly involved in your program. On the day of admission, your family will have an opportunity to meet the treating staff. Members of your family will be encouraged to take part in your treatment plan so they will have a clear understanding of your ability and know how best to help you when you are discharged.

How long will I stay at Gaylord?

The exact length of stay will depend on your need. The staff will help you and your family begin planning for your discharge. Prior to admission and throughout your stay, staff members also will help you plan for any necessary adaptations in your home environment.

What should I bring to the hospital?

You should bring several complete changes of clothing. For women, slacks or sweat suits are preferable to skirts. You also will need shoes: A well-built athletic shoe or a lace-up oxford is recommended. Lace-up shoes are necessary for anyone who has had an amputation and will be using a prosthesis. A bathing suit is recommended in case aquatic therapy is prescribed. Refer to What to Bring for more information.

Does Gaylord have private rooms?

Gaylord has private rooms with picturesque views of the 500-acre campus.

When may I have visitors?

Visiting hours are 1 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. every day.

What about preparations for going home?

Arrangements for your discharge will be made with you and your family and will be coordinated by your care coordinator. Your treating team will make recommendations for any continuing rehabilitation you may need: outpatient therapy, nursing care, post-acute or home care, vocational or other health care services. Discharge is usually between 10 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. by family car if medically feasible.

Can someone at Gaylord help me with planning?

Yes. care coordinator is available for support to assist with your plans for ongoing care and therapy and to consult with you about any financial concerns you may have. A benefits liaison will assist you with application for social security disability or Title XIX.

Does my health insurance cover the programs at Gaylord?

A. Gaylord is a designated provider for Medicare (Title XVIII) and Medicaid (Title XIX). Gaylord also has contracts with numerous insurance companies and will contact your insurance company for preapproval of your treatment.
