The second annual Bike Tour is a family-friendly event that welcomes riders of all abilities, including adaptive and able-bodied cyclists. The course has three lengths: 12 miles, 35 miles and Metric Century (62 miles). The bike tour is a benefit ride for Gaylord’s adaptive sports program – the Gaylord Sports Association. Monies raised will be used to underwrite adaptive sports and purchase adaptive equipment. Last year's tour raised $12,000 that was used to purchase several recumbent bikes for the program.
The Bike Tour was the brainchild of former Gaylord patient Colleen Kelly Alexander a cyclist who was run over by a freight truck near her home in Madison. While recovering at Gaylord Hospital, Colleen was introduced to the Sports Association and saw it as a way to ease herself back into cycling and competitive sports.
The event leaves from the commuter parking lot in Simsbury, located at the intersection of Iron Horse Blvd. and Mall Way, right next to the Farmington Canal Trail. This year we are partnering with Simsbury Free Bike.
Check-in starts at 8 a.m. with Metric Century cyclists leaving at 8:30 a.m., 35 mile cyclists leaving at 9:00 a.m., and 12 mile cyclists leaving at 9:30 a.m.
