Gaylord's Aphasia Day Program

Aphasia is the difficulty in using or understanding language that may affect comprehension, verbal expression, reading comprehension and writing. Gaylord’s Aphasia Day Treatment Program (click link for brochure) is an intensive outpatient program for people with aphasia following an acquired brain injury such as stroke, traumatic brain injury or other neurological disorder. Family members are encouraged to be involved in the program.

Different groups are available depending on individual needs and our services are tailored to help each patient achieve his or her greatest potential.

Aphasia & Cognitive Day Treatment Programs

Guidelines for Admission:

  • At least 15 years of age
  • Medically stable
  • Demonstrates aphasia
  • Verbal expression: May be severely impaired as long as patient can communicate needs using, written expression, gesturing or AAC device
  • Will tolerate and benefit from at least 3 hours of therapy a day
  • Can benefit from and participate in the group treatment setting
  • No active substance abuse
  • Participant, therapist and program coordinator can establish goals that are mutually agreed upon
  • Independent with toileting and be able to transport self within the hospital
  • Able to attend to groups for a minimum of 1 hour sessions

All patients of the Aphasia Day Treatment Program receive individual speech therapy. They may also receive occupational therapy, physical therapy, aquatic therapy, and psychological services based on individual needs.
