Cognitive Day Program

 

Gaylord's Cognitive Day Program

The Cognitive Day Treatment Program offers an intensive outpatient program for people with cognitive deficits following an acquired brain injury such as traumatic brain injury, stroke, or other neurologic disorder. Cognitive impairments result in difficulties with orientation, attention, memory, reasoning, problem solving, planning and organization. These difficulties often affect auditory comprehension, verbal expression, reading comprehension, writing and social communication skills. Family members are encouraged to take an active role in the program.

Aphasia & Cognitive Day Treatment Programs

 Guidelines for Admission

  • At least 15 years of age
  • Medically stable
  • Demonstrates cognitive deficits
  • Will tolerate and benefit from at least 3 hours of therapy a day
  • Can benefit from and participate in the group treatment setting
  • No active substance abuse
  • No exhibition of disruptive behavior
  • Participant, therapist and program coordinator can establish goals that are mutually agreed upon
  • Independent with toileting and be able to transport self within the hospital
  • Able to attend to a group setting for at least 1 hour sessions

All patients of the Cognitive Day Treatment Program receive individual speech therapy. They may also receive occupational therapy, physical therapy, aquatic therapy, and psychological services based on individual needs.
