A Guide to Your Stay

Visiting Hours

Daily 1 p.m.-8:30 p.m.

We ask that the family members and friends of our patients observe the daily visiting hours, which are 1 p.m.-8:30 p.m. If for some reason additional hours are required, requests can be made to the nurse manager and the treating team.

Religious Services

Our staff chaplain conducts interfaith worship services on the second and fourth Sundays of the month at 11 a.m. in Roncari Hall.

Pastoral/Spiritual Support

Your priest, minister or rabbi is encouraged to visit. You should notify him or her of your stay at Gaylord. The Gaylord chaplain is available for counseling and support. The chaplain also will make arrangements if you wish to speak with a member of the clergy from your faith. Notify the unit secretary or call the chaplain's office at extension 3345.

Quiet Room

For a place to reflect, meditate, pray or just be alone, the Quiet Room is available 24 hours a day to family members and patients. It is located on the Hooker ground floor.

Guest House

The Crockett House is a two-bedroom guesthouse available at a nominal fee for the out-of-town family members of our patients. It is not equipped for patient use. If interested in booking the guest house before you are admitted to Gaylord, please call (203) 284-2815. Patients—or family members of current patients--interested in booking the Crockett House for their family members should call extension 2843. For information on motels and hotels in the area, please call the Public Relations office, extension 2829.

Greenhouse

Gaylord's greenhouse is open for patient use. Family and guests are also welcome to visit. Ask your recreational therapist or contact Volunteer Services for more information.

Telephones

Every patient room has a private telephone with a direct-line number. You may make local calls without charge and long-distance calls using your telephone credit card, a pre-paid calling card or by reversing the charges.

Newspapers

The Record Journal, The Hartford Courant and the New Haven Register are delivered weekday mornings. To order copies, contact the nursing station on your unit. Newspapers are also available in the Tremaine Library.

Mail

Correspondence sent to you during your stay should be addressed with your name, unit's name and room number:

John Doe
Lyman 201
Gaylord Hospital
P.O. Box 400
Wallingford, CT 06492

Incoming mail is distributed every morning, Monday-Friday. Outgoing mail can be posted at any nursing station or the switchboard. Stamps can be purchased at the gift shop, which also has a wrapping service. Packages, registered mail and insured items can be mailed from the Accounting Department.

Pets

Only licensed, vaccinated, leashed dogs may visit with permission from your Gaylord physician. Check with the nurse's station for other requirements.
