The Adaptive Sports Fest is offering sports demonstrations and mini-clinics in wheelchair rugby, wheelchair basketball, golf, yoga, boccia, goalball and wheelchair lacrosse. Participants can register for the event and for one or more mini-clinics. Registration is FREE. Online registration will close on April 5, 2018 at 12 Noon.

The Adaptive Sports Fest is a once a year opportunity to learn about dozens of adaptive sports available in Connecticut. This free multi-sport event is designed to introduce adaptive sports to individuals of all abilities, with a focus on Paralympic Sports, and features adaptive sports clinics, sport demonstrations and representatives from several adaptive sports organizations in Connecticut.

The Sports Fest is open to individuals with physical disability or visual impairment, veterans with a disability, healthcare professionals, students, and other individuals interested in learning more about adaptive sports.

Join the Gaylord Sports Association, the Institute for Adaptive Sports & Inclusive Recreation at Southern Connecticut State University, Chapter 126 Sports & Fitness, an Oak Hill Center, and other adaptive sports providers at the third annual Adaptive Sports Fest.

This year's guest speaker is Steve Emt. Steve is a member of the USA Wheelchair Curling Team and is competing in the 2018 Paralympics. He will be talking about his journey to the Paralympics and his experiences in PyeongChang. Steve's presentation will kick-off the 2018 Sports Fest.

The expo area has representatives from local adaptive sports organizations. This is a great way to get connected with different organizations and learn about adaptive sports opportunities in your area. Sports represented in the expo area will include:  cycling, golf, horseback riding, archery, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair rugby, sled hockey, boccia, kayaking, yoga, curling and more!


The organizing committee for the event includes the Gaylord Hospital Sports Association, the Institute for Adaptive Sports & Inclusive Recreation at Southern Connecticut State University and Chapter 126 Sports & Fitness.

The Gaylord Hospital Sports Association has been dedicated to helping people with physical disabilities experience the benefits of adaptive sports and recreation for over twenty years. We offer the most diverse adaptive sports program in the state of CT, with over a dozen different sports, ranging from introductory recreation activities to highly competitive sports teams. The Gaylord Sports Association is a program of Gaylord Specialty Healthcare in Wallingford, CT. The program is proud to be a Bronze Level Paralympic Sports Club and a Chapter of Disabled Sports USA. The Institute for Adaptive Sports & Inclusive Recreation (IASIR) at Southern Connecticut State University strives to be the regional leader in educating, facilitating, promoting and evaluating adaptive sport and inclusive recreation opportunities for persons with disabilities. The institute engages in research, provides relevant educational opportunities, facilitates adaptive sports opportunities and advocates for increased opportunities for persons with disabilities to participate in sport and recreation experiences that occur in the least restrictive environment.

Chapter 126 Sports & Fitness

Chapter 126 Sports & Fitness, named after the U.S. Code, Title 42, Chapter 126; giving people with disabilities equal opportunities, is an adaptive recreational sports and fitness center, open to youth, adults, veterans and seniors with physical disabilities. The first facility of its kind in New England, Chapter 126 Sports & Fitness is a state-of-the-art, 25,000-square-foot facility dedicated to improving the health and wellness of youth, adults, veterans and seniors with physical disabilities, as well as their caregivers and families. Chapter 126 is located in Bristol, CT.
