Exercise For Life (EX4L)

EXCEL in functional fitness through strength, endurance, power and flexibility. Exercise for Life (EX4L) is a strength and conditioning program for individuals ages 16 and up with a physical disability. The class provides an opportunity to work on building strength, endurance and flexibility in a group setting. The class is run by an exercise specialist under the supervision of a physical therapist and is located at Gaylord Physical Therapy in Cheshire. This is an excellent opportunity for participants to learn or build upon fitness skills and become more comfortable working out in a gym setting. Modifications will be made for each individual to promote independence and success. Participants may register for one class series at a time. There is no fee to attend this class. Veterans Adaptive Bowling

Join the Gaylord Sports Association for our first Veterans Bowling program! These outings will provide a relaxed atmosphere to try the sport of bowling or work on perfecting your skills. Both beginners and advanced bowlers are welcome. We will provide pizza for all participants. All equipment is provided. This program is for service members and veterans with a physical disability or visual impairment. There is no fee to attend this clinic, however registration is required. Kayak Class

Kayak Class

This class will include instruction on the basics of kayaking including paddling skills, standard and adaptive kayak equipment, safety procedures and how to adapt or modify for individual needs. The class begins with instruction on land, followed by on water practice in the pool. The pool portion of the class will include a wet exit and water safety check. All participants must meet essential eligibility requirements to participate in this class. To begin the registration process for this class, please complete the kayak registration form and contact the Gaylord Sports Association at 203-284-2772 or sports@gaylord.org. Space is limited for each class.

Paratriathlon Program

Paratriathlon Program

The ParaTriathlon Program is a training program is for adult athletes ages 16 and up with a physical disability or visual impairment who would like to train and compete in a sprint length triathlon. Athletes may choose to compete in all three legs of the event, or as part of a relay team. Athletes will be training to compete in the Dave Parcell’s Madison Triathlon on September 7, 2024. The team is coached by Doug Levens, a certified USA Triathlon coach who is committed to helping all athletes to succeed in the sport of triathlon. Both new and returning athletes who are interested in this program may apply by completing the application form by May 6, 2024. Applications are then reviewed and athletes will be notified of their acceptance in the program by May 17, 2024. This program does have a maximum number of participants and we may not be able to accommodate all athletes who apply. This event is currently full. Please contact us at 203-284-2772 or sports@gaylord.org to be placed on a waiting list and added to our distribution list. The next fishing tournament will be Sept. 17, 2024 at Congamond Lake, Southwick, MA.

 

Golf Clinic

Golf Clinic

The adaptive golf clinic provides an opportunity to try the sport or to return to playing golf. Instruction is provided by a trained PGA professional, Certified Recreation Therapists and volunteers who will help you to maximize your independence and improve your skills. The clinic is set-up in several stations including a driving station and putting station. Beginners and returning golfers are welcome and all equipment is provided, including adaptive golf cart if needed. Pre-registration is required. Archery Clinic

Archery Clinic

Archery clinics are designed for individuals to learn about and participate in the sport of archery. Participants will receive instruction from a Level IV Certified USA Archery Coach as well as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist to give the best possible instruction and support independence. We welcome first-timers, beginners and advanced archers. Instruction will be tailored based on your ability. Standard and adaptive equipment are provided. Pre-registration is required.
