Sports Association COVID-19 Screening and Protocols
 

The Gaylord Sports Association is dedicated to helping people with a physical disability experience the benefits of adaptive sports and recreation. We offer the most diverse adaptive sports program in the state of Connecticut with 15 different sports. Programs range from introductory clinics to competitive sports teams.

Our team of dedicated staff, coaches and volunteers provide instruction, adaptive equipment and activity modification with an individualized approach to maximize the independence of each participant. We strive to provide a safe, fun and supportive environment for all participants and their families. Instruction is based on each participant's level of ability and skill. We welcome everyone from casual beginners to competitive athletes.

Our goal is to assist participants in gaining the confidence, independence and skills to meet their adaptive sports goals. We believe adaptive sports can inspire individuals to overcome obstacles and lead a happier and healthier life.

We serve individuals ages 16 and up with a permanent physical disability or visual impairment. Our participants include people who have experienced a spinal cord injury, amputation, stroke, traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis, spina bifida, visual impairment, neurological condition and other physical disabilities. Veterans who meet our criteria are encouraged to participate.

Kayak Outing

TIME: 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM

Experience the freedom of the open water during a Sports Association’s Adaptive Kayak Outing. Kayak Outings are for individuals who have participated and passed the Sports Association’s Kayak Classes and would like to take their skills to the next level, or just enjoy an outdoor kayak experience. Outings include all the necessary equipment and guidance from both American Canoe Association certified instructors and Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialists. Outings are offered during the summer months. This outing will take place on saltwater out of Lighthouse Point in New Haven.  Kayaking is not only a great fitness activity, it’s an opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, socialize, watch for wildlife, relax and just have fun! Archery Clinic

TIME: 2:00 PM - 4:15 PM

Come and try this sport of skill and accuracy by registering for one of our Archery Clinics! Clinics are designed for individuals with a physical disability or visual impairment to learn about and participate in the sport of archery. Participants will receive instruction from a level IV Certified USA Archery Coach as well as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist to give the best possible instruction and support independence. Both beginners and advanced archers are welcome and all equipment is provided. This clinic is located outdoors on the South Lawn at Gaylord Specialty Healthcare in Wallingford, CT. Cycle Ride

TIME: 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM

Designed for cyclists of all abilities, the cycle rides are open to adults with physical disabilities interested in group rides. Each ride will break into several groups based on ability, speed and distance desired in order to meet the individual needs of each rider. Rides are free. Athletes that have their own cycles are encouraged to bring them, or may borrow from the Sports Association. To reserve a Sports Association cycle, call 203-284-2772.
