Sports Association COVID-19 Screening and Protocols
 

The Gaylord Sports Association is dedicated to helping people with a physical disability experience the benefits of adaptive sports and recreation. We offer the most diverse adaptive sports program in the state of Connecticut with 15 different sports. Programs range from introductory clinics to competitive sports teams.

Our team of dedicated staff, coaches and volunteers provide instruction, adaptive equipment and activity modification with an individualized approach to maximize the independence of each participant. We strive to provide a safe, fun and supportive environment for all participants and their families. Instruction is based on each participant's level of ability and skill. We welcome everyone from casual beginners to competitive athletes.

Our goal is to assist participants in gaining the confidence, independence and skills to meet their adaptive sports goals. We believe adaptive sports can inspire individuals to overcome obstacles and lead a happier and healthier life.

We serve individuals ages 16 and up with a permanent physical disability or visual impairment. Our participants include people who have experienced a spinal cord injury, amputation, stroke, traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis, spina bifida, visual impairment, neurological condition and other physical disabilities. Veterans who meet our criteria are encouraged to participate.

Virtual Fitness Fall Series

TIME: 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM

This is a FREE 7-session virtual fitness class series running from Oct. 21, 2021 - Dec. 9, 2021.  Classes will be held via Zoom.  These classes will work on your fitness, strength, flexibility, endurance and mindfulness!   Classes are designed for individuals age 16 and up with a physical disability or visual impairment.   All ability levels are welcome.   All classes are offered in the seated position with various modifications available to fit each individual’s capabilities.  No experience is needed; just bring your chair and be ready to get moving!   FALL 2021 SCHEDULE All classes will start at 6 pm and are typically 45 – 60 minutes. Boccia Open Play

TIME: 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM

Boccia is a throwing sport of precision which has been adapted for athletes of all abilities using a few modifications. The object is to place balls closest to the target ball by throwing or rolling the ball using a ramp. Games are played one on one, in pairs, and teams of three. All are welcome to learn this game of skill and strategy! Pre-registration is required and COVID-19 protocols will be used for all attendees and staff. Archery Clinic

TIME: 2:00 PM - 4:15 PM

Come and try this sport of skill and accuracy by registering for one of our Archery Clinics! Clinics are designed for individuals with a physical disability or visual impairment to learn about and participate in the sport of archery. Participants will receive instruction from a level IV Certified USA Archery Coach as well as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist to give the best possible instruction and support independence.
