ABOUT WHEELCHAIR RUGBY

Wheelchair Rugby is a high-intensity, full contact, competitive and co-ed team sport. It is played on a hardwood court with rules that include elements of wheelchair basketball, ice hockey, handball and rugby. Players use specially designed chairs and physical contact is an integral part of the sport.  Wheelchair rugby is played by individuals who have loss of function in all four extremities.  Most players have a spinal cord injury, but players may qualify through other diagnoses such as amputation or neurological disorder.

GAYLORD JAMMERS

The Gaylord Sports Association Jammers is the only Wheelchair Rugby team in Connecticut. The team is part of the Gaylord Sports Association, Gaylord Specialty Healthcare’s adaptive sports program. The team is a member of the USWRA (United States Wheelchair Rugby Association) and they compete in tournaments throughout the northeast from September through February.
