Infectious Disease Management

Our Approach to Care

The Infectious Disease Management program provides the expertise needed to manage the multiple system failures that can occur with complicated disease processes. Our skilled team is equipped with the latest technology to care for patients who require daily medical management and specialized care. The program covers a broad spectrum of patients including those requiring complex wound care, management of medication and IV regimes, or respiratory care. Members of our specialized team are ACLS certified (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), have advanced training in wound care and are certified to care for patients with lymphedema. We work closely with our consulting infectious disease physician, infectious disease department and with referring physicians to ensure that treatment is well coordinated.

The Milne Pavilion, which houses our Infectious Disease Management Program, has private rooms with bedside and ambulatory telemetry monitoring, observation rooms, an onsite laboratory, pharmacy, CT scan and diagnostic imaging services.

Program Highlights

Patients admitted to our infectious disease management program typically include those with:

  • Osteomyelitis
  • MRSA
  • Staphylococcal
  • Bacteremia
  • Septicemia
  • Severe urinary tract infections
  • Necrotizing fasciitis

Other infections which require multiple oral or intravenous antibiotics and medical intervention are treated by the team at Gaylord. Many times the initial infection leads to complications in multiple systems and patients will require nutritional intervention as well as complex wound care.

We also care for patients who may be seriously weakened from their condition and require active medical management of intravenous fluids, antibiotics, steroids, or diuretics, as well as complex dressing changes, or suctioning.
