Doctors Specializing in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation
Physiatry is a branch of medicine that diagnoses and treats conditions that have resulted in temporary or permanent loss of function or independence for a patient. A physiatrist is a physician with training in physical medicine and rehabilitation. The goal is to maximize patients' independence in activities of daily living and improve their quality of life rather than focusing only on a medical "cure." Physiatrists carefully evaluate the whole person when devising a treatment plan.
At Gaylord, physiatry is used in inpatient and outpatient settings to assess and treat patients. When needed, our physiatrists also consult with other physicians, such as pulmonologists, primary care providers, and neurologists. Each physiatrist leads a team of specialists that may include physical, occupational, speech, and respiratory therapists and psychologists while using the latest technology as part of a coordinated treatment plan.
Call our office to see if a referral is needed. Often we can schedule an appointment with one of our medical staff (physiatrist) without a referral.
