WALLINGFORD, CONNECTICUT, December 10, 2025 – Gaylord Specialty Healthcare has received a $33,750 grant from the Timken Foundation of Canton to support the purchase of five Workstations on Wheels (WOWs), mobile computer workstations that allow nurses to document and access patient information right at the bedside.

Four WOWs will enhance hands-on learning in Gaylord’s Center for Education by enabling nurses in training to practice on the same equipment used in patient units without removing essential devices from clinical areas. The fifth WOW will be stationed on a patient care unit, supporting seamless documentation and bedside care.

“These WOWs allow our current and future nurses to learn, train, and deliver care with the right tools at the right time,” said Lisa Kalafus, RN, MSN, Chief Nursing Officer. “This grant strengthens our commitment to exceptional patient care, while ensuring new nurses are confident and fully prepared when they begin caring for patients.”

By improving access to equipment across the organization, the project supports safer and more efficient workflows. The bedside mobility of the WOWs enables nurses to perform clinical tasks directly with patients, thereby supporting effective communication, accuracy, and real-time care delivery.

The grant was made possible with local support from Schulz Electric and Power Systems by Timken, a regional subsidiary of The Timken Company. Leaders from Schulz Electric partner with Timken Foundation to support community projects in the local area.

“Timken Foundation’s continued investment reflects a shared vision for strengthening healthcare in our community,” said Roslyn Gilhuly, Associate Vice President of Development. “We are grateful for the Foundation’s generosity and belief in Gaylord’s mission to enhance health, maximize function, and transform lives.”

The Timken Foundation of Canton supports the betterment of people’s lives through capital grants to charitable organizations, including hospitals, educational institutions, community facilities, and social service organizations.
