Gaylord Specialty Healthcare is a rehabilitation-focused, nonprofit health system that provides inpatient and outpatient care for people at every point in their journey from illness or injury to maximum recovery.

Gaylord is widely recognized for its leadership in treating patients with a spinal cord injury, brain injury, or stroke and those requiring pulmonary, cardiac, or complex medical care, as well as sports-related injuries. Gaylord is CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) accredited for all inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation programs and has specialty accreditation for its spinal cord, stroke, and brain injury programs. Gaylord is one of two long-term acute care hospitals in the world, and the only one of its kind in the U.S., with this unique level of CARF accreditation.

The system is anchored by Gaylord Hospital and includes Gaylord Outpatient Services and Gaylord Physical Therapy. Together, these entities deliver a complete continuum of rehab care driven by technology, research, clinical experience, and compassion.

Did you know that there are not only five … but six vital signs?       

Body temperature, blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, and oxygen saturation are the most commonly known vital signs that can provide a good snapshot of a person’s overall health and status. Monitoring these indicators over time can identify subtle changes and irregularities that may be indicative of a more serious problem and may help inform future treatment plans.

The inaugural Residents of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) Residency at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine are pioneers of the new program that began in July...

The first residents of the four-year program began their transitional internship year in internal medicine this past July at UConn Health and Hartford Hospital.  The PM&R rotations will begin at Hartford Hospital Inpatient Rehabilitation and Gaylord Hospital in July 2023.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Gaylord Specialty Healthcare is turning 120 this year.

It’s seen a lot in that time. At the turn of the century tuberculosis was a leading cause of death — with the disease claiming one life a day in New Haven.

Local doctors knew they needed a plan. They decided that a sanatorium wasn’t the solution, and so they gathered a diverse set of professions to create the New Haven County Anti-Tuberculosis Association.
