Gaylord Specialty Healthcare First in Northeast to Offer the HABIT Healthy Action to Benefit Independence & Thinking® Program Developed by Mayo Clinic for Individuals with Mild Cognitive Decline

Wednesday, May 25, 2022

WALLINGFORD, CONNECTICUT, May 25, 2022 – Gaylord Specialty Healthcare is pleased to announce that it is the first healthcare organization in the Northeast to offer the HABIT Healthy Action to Benefit Independence & Thinking® Program to individuals with mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Gaylord Specialty Healthcare will offer the program at its Wallingford headquarters beginning in July.

Developed by Mayo Clinic in 2008, HABIT® is a 10-day brain and body wellness program for individuals –and an accompanying loved one or friend – who have been diagnosed with MCI within the past 12 months. Participants will learn skills to maintain independence despite memory problems, improve self-esteem, and cope with the emotions that arise with a diagnosis of MCI.

For two consecutive weeks, participants and their partners will participate in daily memory compensation training, cognitive exercises, yoga, wellness education, and support group sessions. At the conclusion of the program, participants and their partners will be provided with take-home resources, a scientifically-based nutrition program, and access to an online brain-training program.

The HABIT® program at Gaylord Specialty Healthcare is headed by Clinical Neuropsychologist Bethanie Stephens, PsyD, who received training from the Mayo Clinic, and a team of Gaylord social workers, speech-language pathologists, and certified yoga instructors.
