Gaylord SLPs help manage cognitive difficulties caused by neurological conditions or injuries through customized exercises and compensatory strategy training for memory, attention, problem solving, organization, planning, and safety awareness skills.
Outpatient Speech Therapy
Gaylord’s outpatient speech therapy program focuses on restoring effective communication and cognition and enhancing quality of life.
Our board-certified speech-language pathologists (SLPs) are experts in evaluating and treating speech, language, memory, voice, and swallowing challenges that can be caused by conditions such as:
- Stroke
- Traumatic brain injury, concussion, and other acquired brain injuries
- Mild cognitive impairment and dementia
- Neuromuscular disorders, such as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (AS), Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Parkinson’s Disease
- Voice disorders and dysphonia
Gaylord’s outpatient speech therapy experts provide thorough evaluations and individualized treatment plans to help people navigate a wide range of challenges:

Memory (Cognition)

Language (Aphasia)
For individuals affected by aphasia, a language disorder often resulting from stroke or brain injury, our experts use evidence-based techniques and strategies to enhance speaking, word finding, understanding, reading, and writing abilities, to help them communicate more effectively and confidently.

Speech
Gaylord speech-language pathologists address challenges with speech clarity and effectiveness, including articulation, volume control, and fluency. Treatment is tailored to each individual to improve their ability to communicate clearly, confidently, and be better understood.

Swallowing (Dysphagia)
Helping those with dysphagia eat and drink safely while reducing the risk of choking or aspiration through swallowing strength exercises and maneuvers, self-feeding techniques, positioning strategies, and caregiver training.

Voice
Our services can benefit individuals with voice disorders by restoring healthy vocal function, improving vocal endurance, and enhancing overall vocal quality. Treatment may focus on breath support, volume control, and optimizing vocal quality. Our SLPs are also trained to provide the evidence-based LSVT LOUD® and SpeakOut!® programs for individuals with Parkinson’s disease and other neurological conditions.

Our speech-language pathologists also use state-of-the-art technology to assess and treat a wide range of speech, voice, and swallowing disorders. See how tools like fiberoptic endoscopic evaluations of swallowing (FEES), modified barium swallow study (MBSS), and an array of neuromuscular electrical stimulation tools provide detailed insights that guide individualized therapy plans.
We offer both individual and group speech therapy options to best support patient needs. During your initial evaluation, the SLP will determine whether individual or group therapy is most appropriate.
One-on-one sessions are personalized to your goals, while our full-day Aphasia or Cognitive Day Treatment Programs provide a more intensive approach. These full-day programs combine individual and group therapies to build skills, offer education, and provide meaningful strategies that help improve communication, thinking abilities, and daily independence.
Aphasia Day Treatment Program
This program blends group and individual therapies to help you work on speaking, understanding, reading, and writing in real-life situations.
Cognitive Day Treatment Program
Individual and group therapy sessions address social skills, memory, attention, problem-solving, community reintegration, planning, and reasoning skills. Therapy focuses on exercises and practical strategy training so you can feel more confident in daily life.
