Gaylord Hospital Levels of Care
Gaylord Hospital is an LTACH - a long-term acute care hospital - where the average length of stay is approximately 28 days. The hospital is structured to provide multiple levels of care for different types of patients who generally enter Gaylord after being discharged from an acute care hospital.
Medical Inpatient
Care for Complex Medical Conditions
One of Gaylord Hospital's main areas of medical practice is treating patients with complex medical conditions. These are patients who are critically ill or have multiple diagnoses and need specialized daily physician and nursing care for their recovery. Patients come from an acute care hospital and are often dealing with multiple diseases or conditions such as pulmonary complications, heart failure, arrhythmias, post-surgical complications, and complex wounds. For patients who come on a ventilator we offer an intensive vent weaning program with high success rates. In all medically complex cases, the patient is not yet ready to be transferred to a less-advanced level of care, such as a skilled nursing facility or other sub-acute care setting. Our comprehensive programs provide physicians and their patients specialized hospital care and rehabilitation often needed after being discharged from an acute care hospital.
Expertise in Treating Specific Conditions
As a specialty hospital, we understand the special needs of patients with complex medical conditions and can provide a plan of care to address their long-term goals. Physicians are either board eligible or board certified in a broad array of specialties including critical care, internal medicine, pulmonology, and physical medicine and rehabilitation. Many of our nurses are certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and some certified as a Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse (CRRN). These caregivers work with other members of the treatment team including registered dieticians, therapists and case managers to share information across medical disciplines and help patients advance in their recovery.
