Therapeutic Recreation, For Life
Gaylord Therapeutic Recreation (TR), also called Recreational Therapy, uses leisure and recreation programs to improve an individual’s quality of life and physical, cognitive, social, and emotional function. Some examples of activities include: arts and crafts, board games, cards, Wii or video games, iPad use, sports, gardening in our greenhouse, and music therapy. Leisure education is also part of TR at Gaylord, teaching or enhancing recreation skills and attitudes that can be used throughout life. TR helps an individual continue to participate in activities of interest through adaptive equipment. Gaylord has Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialsits who engage patients and facilitate programs. Upon discharge, we encourage patients to engage in Creative Expressions, our community-based art group, or to participate in adaptive sports through the Gaylord Sports Association. Recreation is a critical component of rehabilitation. At Gaylord, it is treated that way.
