April 27, 2020 02:00PM By Devin Leith-Yessian, Record-Journal staff WALLINGFORD — Overtaxed nurses and doctors at Gaylord Hospital were treated to free coffees from a gourmet coffee truck, courtesy of a local family selling homemade lawn signs to raise money for healthcare workers. “I wanted to find a way to spread positivity among the community and I really wanted to give back to those who are sacrificing so much keeping us safe,” said Mitchell Wollen, 16, who has been creating and selling wooden thank you signs to donate snacks for local hospitals and nursing homes. Drawing from nearly $4,000 raised from selling hundreds of signs since they started on April 5, the Wollen family pre-purchased 150 coffees for Gaylord staff from Rogue Coffee Co., which visited the hospital on Thursday. Though the truck intended to visit twice for the morning and afternoon shift, it was so well received that all 150 coffees sold out in a couple hours.
