Multifaceted challenges of deep venous thrombosis in the setting of tetraplegia and ulcerative colitis: case report
- Authors: Priscilla Mapelli, Mitchel Wright, Henry Hrdlicka, David Rosenblum
- Journal/Date: Spinal Cord Series and Cases. April, 2025
- Summary: This case report highlights the complex clinical management and the compounded risk of thrombosis in a patient with tetraplegia and active ulcerative colitis. This report emphasizes the importance of interdisciplinary decision-making, while illustrating the clinical challenges of managing anticoagulation and bowel care during disease exacerbations and complications like C. difficile infection.

Sensitivity of the SCI-FI/AT in individuals with traumatic spinal cord injury
- Authors: Tamra Keeney, Mary Slavin, Pamela Kisala, Pengsheng Ni, Allen Heinemann, Susan Charlifue, Denise Fyffe, Ralph Marino, Leslie Morse, Lynn Worobey, Denise Tate, David Rosenblum, Ross Zafonte, David Tulsky, Alan Jette
- Journal/Date: Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. September, 2018
- Summary: This longitudinal study evaluated the responsiveness of the SCI-FI/AT measure over 12 months post-injury. It found that the SCI-FI/AT CAT detected functional improvements, especially in Basic Mobility and Self-Care domains, with responsiveness varying by domain and injury level (paraplegia vs. tetraplegia).

SCI peer health coach influence on self-management with peers: a qualitative analysis
- Authors: Sarah Skeels, Diana Pernigotti, Bethlyn Houlihan, Timothy Belliveau, Miriam Brody, Judi Zazula, Stathis Hasiotis, Subramani Seetharama, David Rosenblum, Alan Jette
- Journal/Date: Spinal Cord. October, 2017
- Summary: This process evaluation of the My Care My Call trial identified three key roles (Role Model, Supporter, and Advisor), which are fulfilled by spinal cord injury (SCI) peer health coaches. Through communication tools and strategies, peer coaches supported SCI self-management, emphasizing the value of tailored peer mentor training.

Randomized trial of a peer-led, telephone-based empowerment intervention for persons with chronic spinal cord injury improves health self-management
- Authors: Bethlyn Houlihan, Miriam Brody, Sarah Skeels, Diana Pernigotti, Sam Burnett, Judi Zazula, Christa Green, Stathis Hasiotis, Timothy Belliveau, Subramani Seetharama, David Rosenblum, Alan Jette
- Journal/Date: Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. June, 2017
- Summary: This single-blinded randomized controlled trial evaluated the My Care My Call (MCMC) peer-led telephone intervention for adults with chronic SCI. Participants receiving the intervention showed significantly greater improvements in health self-management (PAM scores), service use, and life satisfaction compared to controls. Subgroup analysis indicated stronger benefits for men, white participants, and those with high social support. The findings support further large-scale testing.

- Authors: Timothy Belliveau, Alan Jette, Subramani Seetharama, Jeffrey Axt, David Rosenblum, Daniel Larose, Bethlyn Houlihan, Mary Slavin, Chantal Larose
- Journal/Date: Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. October, 2016
- Summary: Using data from the SCIMS database, this study developed neural network and logistic regression models to predict functional independence in ambulation and self-care one year post-SCI rehab. The models showed high accuracy for ambulation and moderate accuracy for other outcomes, with both methods producing similar results.

Adoption, implementation, and assessment of a continuous visual monitoring program to decrease inpatient falls in the LTACH setting
- Authors: Lisa Kalafus, Henry Hrdlicka, Jennifer Lombardi, Samantha Proctor, June Napolitano, Nicole Morrill
- Journal/Date: American Journal of Nursing. In Press, expected December, 2025
- Summary: This study describes the implementation of continuous visual monitoring program in a long-term acute care hospital (LTACH) and its impact on reducing inpatient falls and 1:1 sitter use. This program significantly reduced inpatient falls, 1:1 sitter use, and associated costs, saving an estimated $3.2 million in a 20 month period.

Physical and occupational therapists' perceptions of sustainability of a knowledge translation intervention to improve the use of outcome measures in inpatient rehabilitation: a qualitative study
- Authors: Wendy Romney, Michelle Wormley, Diana Veneri, Andrea Oberlander, Victoria Catizone, Pete Grevelding
- Journal/Date: Quality of Life Research. March, 2024
- Summary: This qualitative study explored therapists’ perspectives on the long-term sustainability of a knowledge translation initiative to improve use of outcome measures in rehabilitation. Clinicians identified organizational support, continued training, and patient-centered outcome selection as key to sustaining outcome measure use three years after a knowledge translation intervention in inpatient rehabilitation.

Telerehabilitation to address the rehabilitation gap in anterior cruciate ligament care: survey of physical therapists/care providers
- Authors: Elizabeth Gardner, Corey Podbielski, Emma Dunphy
- Journal/Date: Telemedicine Reports. February, 2024
- Summary: A national survey revealed how clinicians use telerehabilitation to support patients recovering from anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, with implications for access and care models. Most clinicians identified a “rehabilitation gap” after ACL reconstruction and saw potential for digital strategies like telerehabilitation, though few were currently using such tools, highlighting opportunities for future development.
