WALLINGFORD — The State Bond Commission is reviewing legislation to award $4.5 million in state funding to Gaylord Specialty Healthcare to cover part of the cost of a new electronic medical records system.

The MEDITECH Expanse system will replace an 18-year-old system no longer supported by the manufacturer and which also isn’t compatible with the systems in use by the acute care hospitals in the state. The overhaul will streamline the process of referring patients to and from outside care providers, including other hospitals, reducing paperwork for staff and patients alike, said Kathy Reilly, Gaylord’s director of healthcare advocacy and legislative liaison.
