From First Run to Nationals: A Hamden Mom’s Rapid Rise in Adaptive Skiing

Just two months after hitting the slopes for the very first time, a Hamden mother of two is heading to a national adaptive skiing competition in Utah.

It's been a difficult road for Gaylord patient Jessica Youngblood. Jessica has a spinal condition that left her hospitalized for months, with another year spent in outpatient physical therapy at Gaylord. But what started as a new experience just a few weeks ago quickly became something much bigger, helping her build confidence and a renewed sense of possibility as she races down the mountain.

“When you’re going down the hill and the wind is just blowing in your face, you can’t help but smile,” Youngblood said. “It’s such an amazing feeling to be that free and that independent.”
